What is RAW?
RAW:natural born artists is an independent arts organization that hand-selects and spotlights independent creatives in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art.

RAW's mission is to provide up-and-coming artists of all creative realms with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity so that they might be seen, heard and loved. RAW educates, connects and exposes emerging artists in 22 artistic communities nationwide through monthly showcase events. Join us in celebrating the work of these artists.

What to expect:
RAW events are multi-faceted artistic showcases. Each event features a film screening, musical performance, fashion show, art gallery, performance art and a featured hairstylist and makeup artist. These artists are all local, hand-picked talent who have been chosen to feature at RAW.

RAW events are 21+ and feature a cash bar for cocktails while you enjoy the night. Dress code is cocktail attire, so dress the occasion and get ready for an artistic circus of creativity!

Endangered Species Show in Lake Hughes, California

An Endangered Species show has been scheduled at the Lakes and Valley Art Gallery in Lake Hughes, California.

I will be partnering with the Lakes Conservancy and donating a percentage of my sales to them to support conservation efforts in the area.

Location and Direction Information

The show will be held during the month of June. An opening reception will be held Saturday, June 4th from 12 noon to 4pm.

New Scheduled Show for Endangered Species in Ventura, California

Just hours after my last post, I have been invited to show my work on endangered animals at the Red Brick Gallery. The show, which is still being planned and scheduled, will be May 23rd, 2011 through January 11, 2012.

Tentatively, I've been asked to provide 7 pieces for the show, which they will select from the work that I have done. I am anticipating finishing new pieces between now and then for them to choose from, in addition to the ones that I've already completed.

Endangered Species

I've been gone... but I'm back now. Where have I been? I've been right here, working on my ink series... I owe everyone a post with all the new work.

And whereas I am still working pieces in the ink style that I've developed, I have been refocusing my working on my endangered species series. At first, I thought it would only be a few pieces, but as I get further into my research on them, I'm finding myself entrenched in wanting to do my part to help.

How am I going to help?...

1. I am going to continue my series on endangered species (who knows where it will take me or how many more pieces will be in the series).
   
2. I am going to propose my endangered species series for gallery shows to display my paintings in across the nation.
   
3. I am going to search for an organization to partner up with and will DONATE a percentage of the sale of my pieces to this organization. (In return, I'm hoping that whatever organization or organizations that I partner with will help in promoting gallery showing of these pieces)
   
4. I am also looking for photographers who photograph endangered animals. I need photographs to work from for many of these animals... being endangered means there aren't alot of them out there and I won't be able to photograph them myself. Why don't I just google images... because that would violate copyright laws and since I don't my stuff pirated by someone, I'm not going to do it to a photographer who has gone to great pains to document these animals. So, if you're a photographer that has captured an endangered animal, please shoot me an email, I'd love to talk to you...
   
5. I will continue to update this blog with all the happenings of this endeavor... including what I'm working on now, where I'll be showing my work and when, as well as promoting whatever organization(s) I partner with...

What am I working on now?
I've just started a painting of a Loggerhead Turtle, it will be approximately 7' wide by 5' tall. It is composed of five differently sized panels. (I will post an "in-progress" soon)

Here are some facts about the Loggerhead Turtle...

• Amphibians with terrestrial nesting sites
• Highly migratory
• Can be found in subtropical and temerate waters, but most commonly found in the Mediterranean Sea and the western North Atlantic Ocean
• Largest breeding population is currently found in southeastern United States from North Carolina throughout Florida
• Because they endure a long-distance migration, it makes them vulnerable to accidental capture by commercial fisheries
  
• They are categorized as ENDANGERED by the IUCN's Red List
• 32,000 loggerhead turtles were captured in the Atlantic and 10,500 in the Gulf of Mexico in 1987 alone.
• Another threat... habitat loss or disturbance from developments on nesting beaches
